FOOD STANDARDS

Hi Everyone.
All the publicity there has been over the horse-meat fiasco in the uk & Europe, fills me disgust. It only goes to prove can we really trust anything we are told about the food we buy, we deserve and expect the labelling to be correct or what is the point of having labelling. It seems every day the situation becomes worse. Having seen in reports over the last few days that this situation has been going on since 2011.
I have never been an advocate of any processed/cheap food, as the saying is proving to be true "you only get what you pay for". It is far better to buy good quality food in smaller amounts and store and use any left overs in other meals, cutting down on meat portions and supplementing meals with vegetables. It is better for health  reasons not to eat too much red meat, certainly not more than twice per week.
The fact that gorse-meat has been found in school and hospital meals disgusts me children and ill people should be getting the best food possible not the cheapest. If  schools and hospitals sourced food locally and actually cooked and prepared food in the schools and hospitals, it must be better and probably cheaper than pre-packed frozen food, just heated up in microwaves. We trust schools and hospitals to look after our children/relatives and they are feeding them this rubbish. I have had more complaints/comments about the disgraceful standard of food served in hospitals than anything else. Having worked in and seen the way food is served in hosp, it hardly surprising patients  do not want to eat, i certainly would not eat it or let my relatives eat it, sadly most people do-not have a choice.
Listening to a person from Iceland on the television saying schools and hospitals want the cheapest food they can get is shocking, they should be insisting on good quality, after all this is peoples health.
